If you haven’t heard about SCA7 in California, this constitutional change would allow “the imposition, extension, or increase of a special tax by a city, county, city and county, or special district, as may otherwise be authorized by law for the purpose of funding public libraries,” by only 55% instead of current 66% supermajority that is now required. This measure will be voted upon and we have the opportunity to do something before that happens.
Because this issue would have a huge and significant impact on libraries in California, EveryLibrary has shown its support for its passage. As part of that effort, we are looking for librarians throughout California that want to get involved and do something to help urge it passage by the senators by organizing a letter writing party at CLA.
